The legend of the Tipsy Toad Dark Rum:

At the Saltergate Inn, Major Farquhar St John Smythe would drink with ‘The Old Man of The Inn’, said to be Captain Harold Hutchinson. The story goes that they would smuggle a weekly barrel of rum from Guyana, which they would then re-distill with exotic herbs and spices.

Tasting Notes

The rum today is a bold, spicy dark rum that’s exactly what you need as a base for rum cocktails or mixed drinks. Tipsy Toad take Hawthorn berries, sarsaparilla and tonka bean, with a blend of rums from Guyana and Jamaica, which are now blended in the UK.

Tipsy Toad spirits are based on the work of Major Farquhar St John Smythe; an eccentric character who had a military career and lots of experience travelling. It is said that he joined a secret band of craft distillers in the mid 1800s, and had illicit ways of distributing his spirits in the area.
